John SMITH, son of Jeremiah SMITH (1778?-1848) and Sophia AKERS (1795-1874), was born on 15 April 1817 in Burnt Forest, NSW.1 He was baptised on 18 June 1822 at St. Peter's Church of England in Campbelltown, NSW.2 He married Mary Ann WHOLAHAN on 4 July 1846 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Campbelltown .2,3 In 1855 he was a licensee at George and the Dragon Hotel in Taylors Flat, NSW.2 He died on 10 June 1886 in Nimmitabel, NSW (aged 69).4
On the 25th March 1859, John Smith purchased allotments 1, 5 and 6 of section twenty in the township of Cathcart. John and Mary Ann then moved to Bobundarah and by April 1860 he had become the licensee of the Woolpack Hotel. John and Mary Ann also took to farming and owned up to one thousand acres at Bobundarah. By 1871 John had the license of the Commercial Hotel in Nimitybelle. They owned Pine Cottage in Nimitybelle, it still stands today.2
