Obituary from Christian Guardian 1873
WORTLEY, SARAH JANEMiss Sarah Jane Wortley died at her father's residence in Drayton, November 5, after ten months of lingering illness, induced by a severe cold, caught while nobly aiding in the dead of night to extinguish a fire that raged in a neighbor's dwelling. She was twenty-one years old. The deceased was one of the few who, forcasting the future, had made all needful preparation for the next as well as the present world. It was her good fortune to attend for two years the Wesleyan Female College in Hamilton, and to the religious influence thrown around her there, the godly companionship and the judicious councils and oversight of its President, the Rev. Samuel D. Rice, she has always felt greatly indebted. Three years ago, in connection with special services held in Drayton by the Revs. Matthew Swann and Henry Johnson, she publically gave herself to the Lord and united with the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Since which time, until prevented by sickness, she has been constant in her attendance upon the Church's ordinances, and indefatigable as a teacher in the Sunday School. Her death was improved by the writer, from Heb. xi. 4, to a congregation of over 500 people, who followed here remains to the family burial-ground. She "being dead yet speaketh to many." God grant she may neither have lived nor died in vain. ...Rev. Richard J. Forman contributed by Janice Buchanan of Elk Grove, CA, USA
