WALKER, JOHNJohn Walker was born in 1825 in Tecumseh Twp. and died 1896, age 71. He first came to Maryborough with William Loughran in 1851 and purchased 200 acres, lot 9, con. 10. In 1853 he returned with his wife and finished the clearing a few acres of which had already been done. He was a well educated man, a Methodist and a Liberal, and was a Justice of the Peace for many years before his death. He was Township Councillor for some years, and was in office at the time the railway was built. He was one of the first shareholders in the Rothsay Cheese factory. He married Ellen Clarke. Issue: William H., Mrs. Thomas Fleming, Brantford; Thomas and George, Maryborough; Charles E., grain buyer, at Listowel; Mrs. Wm. Graham, Palmerston; Mrs. John Noble, Mrs. Ormiston Henry, and John A., Maryborough; and Mrs. Leslie Walker, Toronto Junc. William H., born on the homestead in 1854. He purchased 100 acres east half of lot 9, con. 11, in 1884. He makes a specialty of horses for sale, both heavy and light. He married Angeline Hamilton. Issue: Clark W., Ellen J., Ormly, and Minnie M., all at home. George, born and raised on the homestead, succeeded to it at his father’s death, and now resides upon it. He learned cheese making at the Rothsay cheese factory and was one year at Darlington Union, and for two years operated a factory for himself at Newton Robinson. He carries on mixed farming , owning 200 acres. For the last two years he has been director of the Rothsay cheese factory. He is Methodist and a Liberal. He married Emma Downey. Issue: Ethel and Mary. John A. born lot 9, con.10, Maryborough, has always been a farmer. In 1902 he purchased 100 acres, west half lot 17, con. 13, where he now resides and carries on mixed farming. He is a Methodist and a Liberal. He married Alice Barber, of Palmerston. Issue: Thelma.
