There is a tombstone in the Springhill Cemetery that reads: "Rev. Thomas Garbutt, son of John and Mary. March 19, 1869. Aged 33 yr. 4 month. Death was sudden but his plight was burning. A member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Entered ministry in 1860. His faith was strong, his life brief but with spirit. Though dead he yet speaketh."
