  Biographies From Wellington County Atlas, 1906.

DENSMORE, ADAM

Adam Densmore was born in Ireland in 1808, and d. in 1884, age 76. He came to Canada when a young man and worked at hewing timber for some years in Streetsville. He also sailed some. He then went to Erin Tp, where he cleared some land on shares and remained for four years. Then being attracted by the cheap lands in Luther he came into the Luther swamp with oxen following blazed paths, and took up 200 acres, lot 18, con. 1, which he cleared. he was successful and left his sons in good condition to start life for themselves.

His sons were all thrifty and hard workers, and stayed on the homestead with their father until he had it well in hand. Mr. Densmore left behind him a good reputation. He was a Methodist and a Liberal.

In 1850 he m. Mary Telford, who still survives at age of 86, and is a most remarkable old lady for her age, very smart and active. Issue: W. J. , Grand Valley; Adam, in West Luther; James, in Grand Valley; David, in East Luther; Robert, West Luther; Mrs. William Owens, Mrs. Geo Keast and Mrs. Berry, in Alberta.

Of these Adam, b. 1851, lives upon and owns 400 acres, lots 17 and 18, con. 1. He carries on mixed farming, and feeds a large numbers of cattle and hogs. Mr. Densmore is one of the money makers of the township, as he took up 200 acres from the bush without a stick cut, and which he has now in the highest state of cultivation. His place originally cost $280, and is now valued at $20,000. In 1875 he m. Charlotte Howes. Issue: Mrs. Wilson, Man.; Mrs. Hutchinson and Charles, in West Luther; Sadie E., Annie H., Richard, Adam, John, Harold, Hilliard, Telford, Leo, and Vivian, all at home.
