LIFE ON THE FARM

As years passed the homesteader turned into a farmer. The land had been broken, the fields cleared, homes and outbuildings completed and families were growing up. Crops were planted and harvested annually and livestock came and went. Communities had built up around them, with schools and churches and halls. Roads were gravelled and vehicle made distances seem shorter. For the most part one could still walk to school, church or nearest hall. These were the years commonly referred to by older folks as "the years on the farm"- years fondly remembered as some of the best days of their lives.
