The Porter Family

Iron Divider Bar

From Scotland to Pictou, Nova Scotia to Australia

These pages are dedicated to my Porter Ancestery:

My Porter Line is traced to Borgue, Gallawoy, Scotland with both John Porter (b. 1732) and Jean Halliday (b. 1736). It was their son William Porter (b. 1758) and his wife Agnes "Nancy" Crockett (b. 1768 in Colvend Parish, Kirkcudbright, Scotland) who migrated to Nova Scotia, Canada. It appears that they did not migrate together, as Agnes migrated in 1774 with her family, however married William in Galloway, Scotland. They had three sons, John, James and William. After William (senior) died, Agnes married John Marshall and had nine more children. William and Agnes' son James married Jane Cassidy, and had eleven children. Their son David Marshall Porter migrated to Australia in about 1853 from Pictou, Nova Scotia and settled around the Scarsdale area, in Victoria.
