Text:   Another Veteran Gone; Bishop Eli Bennett of Cedar Valley sends in the following:
Brother Allen Weeks passed peacefully away from this earthly state of action on Wednesday morning last at 7 o'clock. He was the son of Benjamin and Hannah Weeks, was born in North Carolina January 24, 1813. He received the gospel in 1838. Passed through the persecutions with the Saints at Nauvoo, and emigrated to Utah and was captain of fifty when crossing the plains. He was ordained Bishop of Cedar Valley in 1853. He proved a father of the people and was loved by all, until his health and eyes so failed him that he was honorably released. It will be remembered that his two sons William and Warren, age 16 and 18 years, were murdered by the Indians, while in the canyon after wood. When the father found them brutally cut to pieces scalped and limbed, in this great affliction he only sought the Lord for comfort. He was the father of fourteen children of whom he has left but three. Though he has been an invalid for many years and deprived of his eyesight he has proven staunch and true to the principles of the gospel. He has left three well respected children . . . .

Text:   footnote: In 1897, Dr. John A.M. Passmore, of Philadelphia, issued an elaborate and carefully prepared genealogy of Andrew Moore and His Descendants, in two large octavo volumes of 1600 pages. In the light of the above marriage record it would seem that he had come to a wrong conclusion in stating, on page 7, that Andrew Moore had married Margaret, daughter of Gayen and Margaret (Henderson) Miller.
