     BIBLE RECORD: Bible of Peter A. Miller from Van Wert & Surrounding Counties, Ohio, p.32, Vol. 5-7, FHL #977.1413 D2b. . . . Jacob Goodwin born in Baltimore, Md., brother of Joshua Goodwin, and came to Van Wert county in 1835. March 12, 1807 he married Delilah Keith, 1st wife, children: Abijah - Mary Ann married Joseph Johnson. Elizabeth married Charley Knip - son Joe Knipe. Sarah Jane married Alfred Urick - 2 children died, Jacob married Martha Rice (2nd wife), died 1858. Old Elijah never married. Delilah married James Book - Delilah mother of Luella Small Davis. Jacob deceased, Isabelle, deceased, Edgar, deceased. Jacob married Mrs. Margaret Sands, 3rd wife. Child Emma married Thomas Morris and lived in Elgin. (Some of the Goodwin information is unclear to me but I have copied it as it was given to me. ED)

PROBATE: Van Wert County,Ohio Wills, Vol.3, pp.389,390,391, FHL 1016469: 28 Jun 1886, In the matter of the Will of Jacob Goodwin deceased, June 18, 1886 This day an instrument of writing pruporting to be the last will and Testament of Jacob Goodwin late of York Township in this county deceased was produced in open court for Probate . . . that due notice thereof and of the application to admit the same to Probate be given to Margaret Goodwin widow, Jane Urich, Elizabeth Knipe, Abijah Goodwin, Gliza Goodwin, Emma Morris, Ella Small, Mattie Book, Book and Book next of kin of the testator . . . hearing before this court on the 28 day of June A.D. 1886 10 oclock A.M.
Will: In the name of the Benevolent Father of all, Amen, I Jacob Goodwin of the County of Van Wert and State of Ohio being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and Testament. Item First - I give and devise to my daughter Emma N. Morris the following described property towit- being bounded and described as follows commencing at the South west corner of the South east quarter of the South West quarter of section twenty five (25) in Township three (3) range (3) in Van Wert County, Ohio . . . . . containing (9) acres more or less. Item second - I give and devise to my son Elija Goodwin all the balance of the farm in which I now live on condition that he shall pay all my just debts and shall pay to my granddaughter Luella Small the sum of fifty dollars when she shall have attained the age of eighteen years. Item third - I hereby nominate and appoint Elijah Goodwin and Abijah Goodwin as Executors of this my last will and Testament. Item fourth - I desire that the said Executors shall make sale of any personal property and apply the proceed thereof to the payment of any debts. Item fifth - I hereby revoke all former wills by me made . . . signed sixth day of May A.D. 1886 signed: Jacobe Goodwin in the presence of J.E. Hattery, John A. Morris, A.J. Roller - probate of will 28 June 1886.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: In the possession of Meledie Gregory - source not recorded: Abijah Goodwin was born in Madison County, Ohio, Feb 23, 1834. His father, Jacob Goodwin, was born in Baltimore County, Md., March 18, 1807. He married Delilah Keeth, of the same county, and in 1833 located in Madison County, and remained until 1835, when they removed to Van Wert County, and settled in this township on the farm he now lives on. He was one of the jurors during the first court held in this county at Wilshire. He has raised a family of nine children. His son, Abijah Goodwin, the subject of this sketch, was raised a farmer, and owns 160 acres of land located in the southern part of York Township, upon which he has erected a fine brick residence, a view of which is shown in this work. Feb 22, 1857, he married Harriet C. Barber, of this county, who was born in York State, Dec 26, 1836. They settled on the farm in this township now owned by Benjamin Van Eman, and remained until 1866, when he purchased and made improvements on the farm where he now resides. He had twelve children, ten of whom are living - seven sons and three daughers. Mrs. Goodwin died March 5, 1879. he has held various township offices, and was county commissioner in 1870, 1873, and 1876. . . .
