Individual Note: MILITARY: Served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Captain Thomas Berry's Company and Colonel Abraham Bowmans 8th. The D.A.R. states that he was born and died in Culpeper County, Virginia.

This indenture made 15 Aug 1785 between William Duncan & Rose his Wife of County of Culpeper & Parish of Bromfield of one part and Robert Bywaters of Parish & County aforesaid of other part Witnesseth that William Duncan and Rose his Wife for sum of Forty five pounds Virginia money doth bargain & sell unto Robert Bywaters & his heirs one tract of land lying in Parish & County above mentioned . . . One hundred acres. Boarders Bridge Branch, John Green & Samuel Moore, Wm. Kinnard. Signed: William Duncan -Rose Duncan- proved 15 Aug 1785

This indenture made 13 Aug 1791 between William Duncan and Rose his wife of Culpeper County, Virginia . . . to Eleanor Black of C.C.V. . . . for 100 pounds 225 acres in Bromfield Parish, Culpeper County, Virginia . . . PROBATE: Culpeper County,Virginia Will Bk. D., p.335-336. In the Name of God Amen. I William Duncan of County of Culpeper & State of Virginia being in perfect health and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament first and principally I recommend my Soul to the hand of it divine author and my body to commit to the Earth to be decently intered at the discretion of my Executors my worldly goods I dispose of as followeth. Item I lend to my beloved Wife Rosanna the use and benefit of all my Estate both real and personal (during her widowhood) and after her intermarriage or death I direct the same to be sold by my Executors and disposed of as follows my Just debts and funeral expences being first paid. I give to my Son William Duncan or his legal representatives one hundred pounds current money of Virginia in land given my other Sons. I give to my Son James or his legal representatives twenty pounds current money of Virginia to make his land equal with my other sons Frederick and Benjamin. I give to each of my Sons Frederick and James thirty pounds Virginia Currency apiece in lieu of Slaves given my sons William and Benjamin. The balance of my said estate after paying my debts & the aforesaid legacies I give to be equally divided between my aforesaid sons William Duncan, James Duncan, Frederick Duncan and Benjamin Duncan or their legal representatives whom I appoint as my Executors hereby declaring this my last Will and Testament revoking all others by me heretofore made. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventeenth day of May 1790.

Proved 21 Sep 1801 by William Duncan, Frederick Duncan two of the Executors . . . Liberty being reserved for the other Executors to qualify when they may think fit.
