BIOGRAPHICAL: History of Effingham County, Illinois, pub. 1883, Vol. 2, p. 118: William D. Trollinger, farmer, P.O. Altamont, was born in Knox County, Ohio, Sep 21, 1828, to George and Nora (Durbin) Trollinger. He was born in Pennsylvania, of German Descent, in 1800; he was a farmer, he died in Ohio in 1875; his father was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. The mother of our subject was born in Maryland, in 1808, and died in Ohio in 1854. He was killed by his horse that he was riding falling on him, causing such injuries that he died in a few days. They were the parents of eight children, one of whom - William was the fourth child. . . . . He (William) came to Effingham County in 1851, and bought his land in 1857, and removed to it in 1859, where he has since remained, actively engaged in farming. . . . He married Miss Elizabeth Sapp, a native of Ohio and came to Effingham County when she was a little girl. They had four children, three living - Hiram D., Mary C. and Mine J. . . .
