Individual Note: BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Weston County, Wyoming, The First 100 Years, p. 592, FHL #978.714H2w. Mahnke, Olive and Henry, Early Residents. Henry Herman Hahnke was born January 18, 1862 in Germany. He came to the United States about 1881. He spent about four years in St. Louis, Missouri before coming to Custer, South Dakota in 1885. Olive Glendora Poe was born in Boone, Iowa on December 19, 1872. Her parents were Matilda and William Poe. When Olive was about twelve years old, the family moved to O'Neill, Nebraska and later to Custer, South Dakota. Olive Poe and Henry Mahnke were married on January 18, 1889 near Custer. They lived on Henry's homestead northwest of Custer for nineteen years. In 1908 the family moved to Weton County, Wyoming settling on a one hundred sixty acre ranch near Clifton . . . Olive and Henry were the parents of fifteen children. Eleven children were born near Custer. Four more children were born after the family moved to Wyoming . . . Henry died suddenly on Jul 7, 1921 while cultivating corn on the ranch near Clifton. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle. . . . Olive and the two youngest children returned to live at Custer, South Dakota . . . She died at the age of eighty seven on June 5, 1960 at Hot Springs. She is buried in the Custer Cemetery. The first two children born to Henry and Olive died in infancy. The other children are: Mabel Hill Smith born in 1892, lives in a nursing home in Seattle, Washington; Myrtle Thornton 1893-1962; Mary Bunn May 1894-1960; Dora Hinsdale 1895-1983; Alice Bacon Thomas Knutson 1898-1986; Ada Roadifer Maddox 1899-1962; Henry born in 1900, lives in Portland, Oregon; Harold 1904 -1968; Elsie Stine 1907-1942; Grace Fillinger 1908-1983; Howard born in 1910, lives in Kalispell, Montana; Herman born in 1912, lives in Cedaredge, Colorado; and Susie Case 1915-1973. . . .
