I, John Brown of H, for divers good causes, give to Rebekah Scott, 1 Negro boy named Elijah, 1 Negro girl named Esther, 1 Negro boy named Jeremiah. I have put sd Rebekah Scott in full possession therof. Signed Nov 9, 1793 - John Brown. Wit - Frederick Brown, Lockey Brown, Langston Brown. Recorded Dec 23, 1793.

PROBATE: Halifax County, Virginia Will Book 3, 1798-1804, p.219-220, FHL #31863, December Court 1800 - I Rebeccah Scott of Halifax County, . . . Give and bequeath to my son Loften Scott one Negro boy named Elijah on condition that he is to pay unto his brother John G Scott fifteen pounds cash next Christmas twelve months also a case of bottles. . . Item, I give and bequeath to my son John G Scott one Negro boy named Jeremiah also twenty (unreadable) . . . also the half of my stock of hogs and the other half of sd hog to his brother Loften . . . Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally Brandon my Negro girl named Esther . . . Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebeccah Brandon one negro woman named Lyd? . . . Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Amey Scott one negro woman named Fanny. . . Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsy Scott one negro woman named Phillis and feather bed and furniture and one horse name Dolphin . . . My wish is that my daughter Amey Scott shall and do pay to her grandather Brown six dollars ? annually during his life provided the negro woman Fanny should be the longest liver also . . . lastly I do appoint nominate and ordain my son John G. A Codicil to the within will as followeth that is I give to my daughter Rebeckah Brandon one Negro child named Dicey in lieu of the Negro child Cisley formerly bequeathed to her . . . Item, I give to my daughter Amey one negro boy named Bartlet and she my said daughter Amey is to pay to her sister Rebeckah Brandon twenty dollars as soon as may be convienent . . . Item, my will and desire is that my two daughters Amey and Elizabeth Scott do and shall have the one half of the present crop now growing on the plantation and my son Loften Scott is to have the other half . . .
