Dear Nephew and Niece, . . . . You wrote about your relations, Philip Kennerly - he lives about 4 miles from me, - his oldest son John Kennerly married Malinda Duncan, Ben Duncan's oldest daughter. He was a Methodist. His second son, James Kennerly has gone south to one of his uncles - from information is a smart physician. There is another son Philip, but young yet. This indenture made 11 Apr 1793 Between James Duncan Junr. & Barsheba his Wife of Culpeper County of one part and George Walters of County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that James Duncan & Barsheba his Wife in consideration of the sum of Eighty pounds current money of Virginia . . . hath bargained & sold unto George Walter his heirs a certain tract of land containing Four hundred & ninety five acres situated in County of Culpeper & lying in the GourdVine Fork on the South side of Cannon's River in County aforesaid, & bounded as . . . Francis Cheeks line, formerly John Barracles . . . South side of Cannons River . . . corner to Philip R. Thompson, formerly by Thomas Brooks . . . Francis Slaughters line . . . to the mouth of the Rush River or opposite thereto, thence up the aforesaid Cannons River to the beginning. For Fifty pounds current money of Virginia to James Duncan paid, do sell all that tract of land lying in County of Culpeper . . . Seventy three acres, two rods and thirty nine perches of land and all houses orchards etc. Signed James Duncan & Barsheba (her mark), in presence of Thomas Sims Sr., John Browning, George Walters. Proved in court 15th Sep 1794.
