John Rickmar was born 5 June 1840 in Galveston, Texas. Left on his own at an early age, he came to Missouri in the 1850's and worked as a carpenter in Madison and Iron Counties, Missouri. He enlisted in the 13th Missouri Calvary on 29 March 1864. Serving as a Private in Company E, he fought in the Battle of Pilot Knob in Iron County, Missouri. He was discharged from the Union Army on 13 May 1866.
On 15 August 1880 in Madison County, Missouri, he was married to Artemissa Clementine Henson. She was born 5 September 1855 in Iron County, Missouri, the daughter of Josiah and Nancy (Oaks) Henson, Jr. They resided in Iron County, Missouri, Collinsville, Illinois, and Bismarck, St. Francois County, Missouri.
John Rickmar died 30 Oct 1922 at Bismarck, St. Francois County, Missouri. Clementine (Henson) Rickmar died 26 Jan 1928 at Bismarck, St. Francois County, Missouri. They are both buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Bismarck, St. Francois Co. MO.
They were the parents of seven children:
(1) Gilbert John Rickmar was born September 1881 in Iron County, Missouri. He married Frieda Oehler.
(2) Bertha Lee Rickmar was born April 1884 in Iron County, Missouri. She married Hamilton Marmaduke and Joseph Fosnock.
(3) Frank Joshua Rickmar   was born 22 June 1886 in Iron County, Missouri. He married Alice Sago.
(4) Jeanette "Nettie" Louise Rickmar was born December 1888 in Iron County, Missouri. She married Edward Hart, George Parker, John Brooks, and John Strickland.
(5) Henry Ellsworth Rickmar was born 18 May 1891 in Iron County, Missouri. He was married to Katherine Oehler and Mabel E. Roach.
(6) Rose Clementine Rickmar was born 25 August 1894 in Collinsville, Illinois. She married Joseph Harvey Bayless.
(7) Jane "Jennie" Victoria Rickmar was born September 1897 in Edwardsville, Illinois. She married John Abel.
