Subject: NICHOLAS BULLY AND HIS FAMILY...
Date: Sun, 12 Jan 2003 16:32:10 -0800

Hi Kay. I just found your Rootsweb, freepages site
and I see that you're
not sure about the two Nicholas Bully men...father
and son. I've researched
them and their families since they were both
grandfathers of mine. Most
everything I found was in The Genealogical
Dictionaries of Maine and New
Hampshire by Sybil Noyes, et al. Since Nicholas,
Sr. seems to be your
grandfather, I can provide a little bit of
information. I'm writing my
family histories in narrative form but I can narrow
down the information to
the proper marriages and who's who.

Nicholas, Sr. and his wife (name unknown) lived in
west Saco (where
Biddeford, MA is now) and is thought to have come
from England. He and his
son, Nicholas, were listed as fishermen. When King
Philip's War began,
Nicholas got out, along with most people living in
the Saco region and he is
recorded as having died in 1678. I've seen both
Saco and Boston listed as
the place where he died but I think, because he was
an old man by then, that
he may have gone to Boston and moved in with is son,
John.
"John Bully" died in Boston in 1678/79, was married
to Rebecca ____ and had
a daughter, Sarah, born in Boston on July 26, 1677.

Nicholas, Jr.,born about 1628, was married to
Ellen/Eleanor Booth (my
grandparents) died in 1664 and was buried on April
29th. Ellen was the
daughter of Robert Booth who also lived in west Saco
by 1648.

Nicholas, Sr.'s first son was Nicholas II, married
Ellen/Eleanor Booth, born
about 1634 in England
Ann married Ambrose Berry, II in 1653, in Saco.

Neither Nicholas II nor his father were able to write and used an “X” as their signatures and unless these two grandfathers of ours knew how to spell, we can’t be sure “Bully” was actually their name.
