Natural Bridge State Park Slade, Kentucky August 6-8, 2004 “Celebrating Our Mountain Heritage” We are pleased to announce that the 52nd Annual Swango Family Reunion will be held August 6-8, 2004, at the air conditioned Activity Center of Natural Bridge State Park, Slade, Kentucky. This year’s theme has been designated as “Celebrating Our Mountain Heritage” with a special emphasis on family fun. We encourage everyone to come dressed as their favorite ancestor or historical character for the Saturday evening dinner. If you are more comfortable in present day garb that’s OK too. Friday, August 6, 2004 This session is for “Early Birds” who wish to view last year’s video of family stories and to video additional family tales of the past. A lucheon will be hosted by Tutt and Lois Lambert in the private dining room of the Lodge and will include some very special Bavarian guests 1:00-2:30 P.M. Luncheon, Video for Swango Story Tellers 3:00-5:00 P.M. Visit Local Places of Interest: Campton Museum, Courthouse, New Library featuring a Genealogy Section & Swango Graveyards. 5:00-6:30 Dinner on Your Own 7:00-9:00 P.M. Informal Gathering at Activity Center to Greet Old & New friends. Saturday, August 7, 2004 11:00-2:00 P.M. Registration at Activity Center 2:00-4:30 P.M. Special Heritage Demonstrations at Activity Center. View daily activities of our ancestors as illustrated by their descendants. At least six demonstration stations will be featured including: Quilt Making: Billy James & Eunice Stone Spinning Wheel: Norma Profitt Music: Tom Peck (Mandolin, guitar, banjo, fiddle) Soap Making: Billy James Oak Basket Making: Steve Peck Cane Carving: Jim Johnston 6:00-6:30 P.M. Swango Group Photo at Activity Center 6:30 P.M. Dinner at Activity Center 8:00 P.M. The Stoney Creek Cloggers of Bull’s Gap. TN. & the Hoedown Island Cloggers of Slade, KY., will perform followed by Candelight Ceremony, Swango Hero, Officer Elections and Action Auction. Sunday, August 8, 2004 11:00 A.M. Sunday Service with Pastor Frankie Bryant will be held at the old Baptist Church built in 1836 on land donated by Abraham Swango (1790-1865) and Debbie [Ogden] Swango (1796-1862). Caravan will form for the short trip to Baptist, Kentucky. 12:00 P.M. Goodbyes ‘till next year. All Swango descendants, relatives and friends are most welcome.
