John Thomas Raine was born at Webster, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, July 28, 1849, and died March 22, 1918, at the age of 68 years, 7 months, and 22 days. He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania and was married to Margaret Jane McCracken, August 27, 1873.

To this union were born six children; one dying in infancy [Thomas Edward Raine] and one at the age of 12 years [John F. Raine].

In 1878 he moved with his family to Wabaunsee County Kansas, where he resided until the year 1908 when he moved to the present residence. He is survived by his wife, four children, twelve grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. The surviving children are George, of Denver Colorado; James, of Mesa, Colorado; Charles, of Santa Ana, California; and Mrs. Ella Ross of Belvue. All were present for the funeral.

The deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him and in his death the community loses one of its most loyal citizens.
