He is survived by a widow and several children, all grown. The funeral was held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at the home of Joseph Raine. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery in Kaw Township.

Alma Enterprise, 6 January 1911

George Raine was born in Durham, England, in 1826 and died at the home of his son Joseph in Maple Hill township, December 28, 1910, from a complication of diseases peculiar to old age.

Coming to America in 1849, he and his wife [Hannah Watson] settled in Pennsylvania. They came to Kansas in 1870, suffering all the privations and hardships that fell to the common lot of all in those days. They settled in Kaw township where he has since resided until about a year ago he came to Maple Hill. His first wife died in 1880, and in 1882 he married Mrs. Annie Cowan [Annie Black] of Ohio.

He has been blind for the last five years, and the patience and cheerfulness with which he bore his affliction endeared him to all.

He was laid to rest in the Kaw cemetery. Rev. Crouch conducted the services at the house and Rev. Handle of St. Marys finished the services at the cemetery. Many of his old friends and neighbors were waiting at the cemetery to pay him their last respects.

Grandpa Raine leaves a wife, six children, 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Card of thanks - We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors for their help and sympathy during the last illness of our husband and father. Mrs. Annie Raine [Annie Black], Mrs. Lewis Vilven [his daughter, Ann Raine], Joseph Raine [his son] and brothers.
