Mrs. Jacobs, wife of Hamilton Jacobs is lying very low with consumption at her mother's home in this place. Mrs. [Annie Black] Cowan, her mother, has the sympathy of the entire community in her many troubles. Her husband [Charles Wesley Cowan] died a few months since and another daughter [Elizabeth Cowan Hamilton*] residing at Buchtel is lying with typhoid fever.

*Elizabeth survived the typhoid fever; she was mentioned in letters and newspaper paragraphs after Annie moved to Kansas.
