Addie Cowan was born at Greenock, Pa., Sept. 29, 1865; and passed away at her home, Maple Hill, Kansas, Wednesday, January 5, 1944, after an extended illness, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 16 days.
When she was 7 years of age her parents moved to Renville [Rendville], Ohio, and after her father's death she, with her mother and two brothers [probably John and George, the youngest], came to Kansas, living on a farm near Wamego.
On April 23, 1886, she was united in marriage with Joseph Raine and settled on a farm at Wells Creek until the Spring of 1910 when they moved to the farm home south of Maple Hill where they have lived ever since. Her husband passed away in 1939.
She leaves three sons, Lee [George Lee] and Lester [Joseph] of Maple Hill and Francis of Topeka, and two daughters, Annie Sanders [should be Sander] of Alma and Jessie Arnold of Maple Hill. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A host of friends, many of whom have known her for many yeares, mourn her loss.
She was a member for many years of the Congregational Church, Maple Hill, and took a lively interest in community activities. Mrs. Raine was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church at Maple Hill, Sunday, January 9, 1944, Rev. W. M. Randles officiating. Interment in the Maple Hill cemetery.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the acts of kindness, messages of sympathy, and the beautiful floral offerings received from our kind friends and neighbors during our recent bereavement in the loss of our beloved mother.
