11. ;Both the 1860 census enumeration and his son Jefferson's 1900 census entry list his birthplace as New Hampshire. However, the 1850 census enumeration shows Thaddeus' birth place to be Massachusetts. It is more likely that the Massachusetts birth place is correct. The 1860 census enumeration is the only document giving a birth date as ca. 1776 [age 84], about four years too early; the information was probably given by another household member.

25. All available evidence found to date corroborates Osborne's year of birth as 1816 [1850 U.S. census, Danville, p. 213, dw. 19, fa. 19, age 34; 1860 U.S. census, Wheelock, p. 550, dw. 1061, fa. 1100, age 44; 1870 U.S. census, Wheelock, p. 11, dw. 101, fa. 101, age 54; 1880 U.S. census, St. Johnsbury, ED 55, p. 208B [p. 52], dw. 287, fa. 463, age 64], but no primary documentation has been found which states his date of birth. Hutchinson's, Wheelock, Vermont, History, p. 51, gives his date of birth as 24 March 1816 and place of birth as Wheelock. I am reluctant to accept this at face value due to myriad mistakes found in this history. However, Osborne's marriage date to Adeline Larnard and the death dates of the couple as stated in this history appear to be correct.
