This is a 1/9 plate cased tintype which was found in a small box of Prescott, Staples and Peck memorabilia. It is unidentified and no other photographs of the same man have been found. The brass mat is stamped on the edge with "Worcester, Mass. No. 69 - Dean and Emerson Patented Dec. 24, 1861." Assuming the case and the tintype are of the same time period, it must have been taken after that date. The mat also yields one other clue to this man's identity. It is the same mat used to frame the image of Martha Maria Prescott taken in 1864. The original is in the possession of the author.
