This tintype is 2½ x 3 inches in size and was identified as "Guy Staples" on a slip of paper attached to it with a round paper clip. The corners have been clipped, perhaps to fit into an album. A second tintype, identified as "Don Staples 4 yrs," was also found in the box of photographs. There are three known Guy Staples members of this family: Guy Beckley Staples, b. 1847; his son Harlan Guy Staples, b. 1871; and his grandson Guy Albertus Staples, b. 1903. Given the type of image and its association with one taken circa 1882, this is probably the image of Harlan Guy Staples taken circa 1882 when he was about eleven years old. The original, formerly in possession of Lula (Peck) Staples, is now in the possession of the author.
