Levi Palmer's will calls Elizabeth simply "my daughter Libby", whereas sister Ellen is called "my daughter Ellen Holcomb". This suggests that her surname was still Palmer in 1897, the date of his will. The evidence on Libbie Palmer, wife of Ethan Palmer, is in complete accord with what is known of Libby Palmer, daughter of Levi Palmer. Birth dates and places are identical and Libbie (Palmer) Palmer's death record shows that her father's surname was Palmer and her mother's surname was Welch. Libbie and Ethan were first cousins.⁸⁴

The wording for some of the entries in the F. Marshall Case records, those dealing with Elihu Case and his descendants, suggests that the original source may have been a family Bible or other similar record. The birth and death dates in these entries frequently include the day of the week and sometimes even the time of the event. Frank "Franky" Pierce Case is one of those entries. His page includes his nickname, "Franky", the fact that he was born on Friday, and the notation that his twin was born dead.¹⁰⁷

There is room for much confusion as to the number of marriages Delos Case had. It's obvious that the Laurie C. in 1900 and the Laura B. in 1910 could be the same woman. Both are about the same age and both were born in New York. The 1900 census enumeration states that the couple had been married one year.¹⁰⁵ The 1910 census enumeration states that the couple had been married nine years, not eleven years as would be expected. This suggests a second marriage. Unfortunately, the enumerator in 1910 did not include the number of marriages, information that would have solved the problem.¹⁹⁷

Evidence for the marriage of Delos Walter Case to Charlotte Loomis was found in the obituary extract of their son Robert V. Case. The extract calls Robert, who died 17 February 1923, the son of D. W. Case and Charlotte Loomis Case.⁹³ Charlotte, or Carlotta, may have been Delos's third wife, assuming that the Laurie C. Case in 1900 and the Laura B. Case in 1910 are two different women.

Although his relationship to Adrial H. Case is entered as "son" in the 1880 U.S. census enumeration of Topeka, Kansas,¹⁵⁸ Adrial himself states that Daniel was his son by adoption in the E. E. Case manuscript. It is possible that Daniel was a blood relative, as the informal adoption of relatives was a common practice.³⁷

Judge Case was appointed judge of the circuit court, Second Judicial District, Wailuku, Maui, on 15 February 1922 by President Warren G. Harding. He held this post for 22 years, being reappointed by President Calvin Coolidge in 1926, by President Herbert Hoover in 1930, and by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935 and 1939. He retired 15 February 1944 at the age of 80 years. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin made an interesting observation: "In spite of the fact that Judge Case was a Republican and was reappointed by two Republican presidents, he had such a reputation as a jurist that he was one of two Republican judges reappointed to the Hawaii courts by President Roosevelt in 1935."¹⁶⁰^,²⁰⁰

Zelpha, age 15, is Jareb's granddaughter and Minerva is his daughter. On this census, Minerva is called a widow.¹⁶⁹ It's possible that she was actually a divorcee or perhaps she never married.
