Descendants of Abraham Palmer

Generation Four

     23. Bernard4 Ayres (Marcus3, Thersa2Palmer, Abraham1) was born February 1870 in PA;38 married Jennie M. Fenton 1892 probably in Canton Twp., Bradford Co., PA.38

Jennie M. Fenton was born November 1874 in PA.38

Known children of Bernard4 Ayres and Jennie M. Fenton were:

  • i. Maud May5 Ayres was born 23 November 1893 in Ward Twp., Tioga Co., PA.4

     24. Mary S.4 Palmer (Otis3, Reuben2, Abraham1) was born 19 May 1863 in Middlebury Twp., Tioga Co., PA;12 married Benjamin Tagg circa 1885.42,40

Mary, wife of Benjamin Tagg, is identified as Mary Palmer, daughter of Otis and Melissa, by her mother's presence in the Tagg household in 1920. Melissa Palmer, age 76, is entered as Benjamin's mother-in-law.42

Benjamin Tagg was born September 1858 in MI.42,40

Apparently, Benjamin Tagg was married at least once before his marriage to Mary Palmer. His 1900 household includes seven children, the oldest an eighteen-year-old daughter, Florence, whose birth predated his fifteen-year marriage to Mary. This census also includes the information that Mary was the mother of six chldren, all living at the time. Florence must be Benjamin's daughter by an earlier marriage.

Known children of Mary S.4 Palmer and Benjamin Tagg were as follows:

  • i. Elnora5 Tagg was born May 1886 in MI.40
  • ii. Otis Tagg was born March 1888 in MI.40

  • v. Lowell Tagg was born March 1896 in MI.40
  • vi. Missa Tagg was born February 1898 in Winfield Twp., Montcalm Co., MI.40

     25. Mary E.4 Carr (Ada3Palmer, Reuben2, Abraham1) was born circa 1864 probably in Troupsburgh, Steuben Co., NY;43,44 married (--?--) Jack say 1887; she died before 4 June 1900.

The William Carr household in 1900 includes three grandchildren: Willie Jack, age 11; Earl Jack, age 8; and Laura Jack, age 6.40 Given their surname, their mother must have been a daughter of William and Ada (Palmer) Carr who married a man surnamed Jack. Mary is the only daughter of an appropriate age to be the mother of these children. Also, Mary appears to have died before the date of this census as Ada states that two of her ten children are deceased. Eight of the nine known children are accounted for in this census, leaving only Mary as a deceased child. Her orphaned children are apparently being cared for by their maternal grandparents. No Carr-Jack marriage has been found in the Dibean Marriage Index, but there is an Andrew Jack, age 47, living in the household of Mary's brother George in 1910 with Earl Jack, then age 18. Earl is identified as George's nephew and Andrew as George's brother-in-law.50 Given the fact that George's wife was Mary E. Witmer, Andrew Jack is probably Mary (Carr) Jack's husband, not Mary (Witmer) Carr's brother.

(--?--) Jack was born say 1862.

Although not confirmed at this time, he is probably the Alexander Jack, age 47, who is enumerated in the George C. Carr household in Reynolds Twp., Montcalm Co., MI, in 1910. Alexander, a widower, is called George's brother-in-law.50

Known children of Mary E.4 Carr and (--?--) Jack were as follows:

  • i. Willie5 Jack was born January 1889 in MI.40
  • ii. Earl Jack was born April 1892 in MI.40
  • iii. Laura Jack was born June 1893 in MI.40

     26. Agnes M.4 Holt (Alzuma3Palmer, Reuben2, Abraham1) was born 26 May 1872 in NY;47,48 married (--?--) Green say 1888.47

(--?--) Green was born say 1870.47 He died before 19 June 1900 as Agnes is called a widow on that date.47

Known children of Agnes M.4 Holt and (--?--) Green were as follows:

  • i. Iva M.5 Green was born May 1888 in PA.47
  • ii. Lawrence Green was born July 1893 in PA.47
