William Heise's Funeral

Yesterday afternoon the door of the grave closed on a man who is remembered for his fine character. It is Mr. Wilhelm Heise, Senior, founder of the the well known lumber firm of Heise & Bruns, who in the widest circles of esteemed and valuable German adopted citizens, died on Saturday the 19th of November after a severe illness.

Long before the hour of the funeral which took place at his late residence 2121 East Pratt Street, a large multitude of mourners had gathered among whom were former friends and business associates. In the parlor of the house were numerous floral arrangements surrounding the catafalque, around the costly coffin in which the remains of the noble man rested. Deep peace surrounded the deceased and was no less than the extreme pain and suffering which he had endured.

At the head of the coffin stood a high floral display with the inscription "Father," an offering of the Heise family and at the feet an immense cross from his brothers August and Adolph Heise. There was also a pillow of flowers from Mr. Thos. Bourn and wife, a cross from Mr. Karl Schreiner and wife, an anchor and cross from G. P. and P. L. Reinhardt, a pillow arrangement from Mrs. R. M. Hauck and Thomas Schryock, a three foot high heaven's gate adorned with a white dove from the members of the firm of Heise & Bruns and many similar other floral arrangements.
