1880 CENSUS PROJECT

The BURGESS Census Project is an ongoing event. On these pages you will find the links to the 1880 SOUNDEX index for BURGESS names. This will also include some variations of the BURGESS name.

One thing should be mentioned about the Soundex, only those families that had children under the age of 10 were recorded in this special index so it is very possible that some BURGESS families will not appear in the transcriptions. If you know there was a BURGESS in a certain area but they aren't listed here, then check the actual census records for that state & county.

Also, it is a good idea to check the original census for those in the Soundex list since it will give you even more info about the family such as where parents were born.

States in Green need volunteers - You would only have to order the 1880 Soundex film for B622 from your local FHC for a particular state and then transcribe all the BURGESS names. It really wouldn't be hard. Please think about helping us.
States in Orange have some volunteers but need more.
States in Blue are completed and will be brought online as time permits.
States in BLACK had no Burgess names listed in the index.
States in PINK had no census for year 1880.
