1850 CENSUS PROJECT

We have put some of the 1850 information on line. Below you will find a list of the states with a color code to indicate the progress on that particular state. Some states don't have an 1850 census and they will be noted as such in the links. If you have any indexes or have any 1850 census info you have already looked up, please contact us at mdb@rocketmail.com

Some of these files are in text format. I know they aren't as easy to read but it was easiest for me. As a result, some of them don't look very nice, but it was more important to get the info online than to have it look pretty.

States in Blue are completed and will be put online soon. They contain either a full transcription or an index for that state.

States in BLACK had no Burgess names listed in the index. - The indexes I checked for these states had no BURGESS (or variant spellings) names listed. If you know there were BURGESS people in any of these states in 1850, please let me know. Also, if you know of any other state that had no BURGESS names listed for 1850, please let me know so I can mark that state.

States in PINK have no 1850 census. Census records for these states started after 1850.
