"The area today known as Dumfries and Galloway formerly comprised the separate Scottish counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire. Please Note: The proper title for Kirkcudbrightshire is The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright – 'The Stewartry', for short. The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and Wigtownshire together comprise the area generally referred to as Galloway."

Do you get to pick your preferred tartan or what?! (If so, I like the last two!) BOY, do I have a lot to learn. Will edit this page to remove ignorant comments like that when I learn more.

Update September 15, 2000:
I just read this. I hate to break it to the McWilliams, but we are not descended from the original McWilliam clan.

Update May 2003
Fellow researcher B. Rankine determined that our ancestor Alexander married Jean Armour in Kirkinner Parish, Wigtownshire, Scotland. Their proclamation or bans were published March 17, 1818, so they were probably married within three weeks of that date.
