KIMBALL The Kimball name was originally spelled Kymbold. The first of this name to be traced is Thomas, (1396 - November 28,1452) who was born in Hitcham, England. His son John (1428 - March 16, 1472) and grandson Henry I (1466- October 15, 1526), as well as the next several generations were also born there.
Richard Kimball was born 1592 or 95 in Rattlesden, England and was married to Ursula Scott on October 23, 1615. He embarked in April 10,1634 from Ipswick, England with his wife Ursula, her Mother Martha Scott, his brother Thomas, a 15 year old servant John Laverick, and by some reports his father Henry. By occupation, he was a wheelwright. He first settled in Watertown, Mass. (his lot is now located in Cambridge, Mass.). About a year later he moved to Ipswick, Mass where he was admitted a freeman in 1635 and was granted a house lot and 40 acres. He was listed as a proprietor in 1636-37, and in 1645 he was appointed one of seven men to order the affairs of the town. He died June 22, 1675 and his will was filed March 5, 1675 and probated September 28, 1675. Richards first wife Ursula, who was the daughter of Henry and Martha (Whatlock) Scott of Battleden County Suffolk England, died 1658 in Ipswich, Mass. He then married on Oct. 23,1661 Margaret Cole, d. Mar. 1, 1676, widow of Henry Dow of Watertown (or, perhaps, Hampton, NH) who d. Apr. 21, 1659. Margaret had been a maid-servant in Dedham, Mass. before her marriage to Henry. Richard and Ursulas children were:
