William Buckles1 (M)

     William Buckles was born circa 1743 at Fredrick County, Virginia.1 He was the son of Robert Buckles Sr. and Ann Brown.1,2 William Buckles married Priscilla Hendricks, daughter of James Hendricks and Priscilla Pettit, in 1765.1 William Buckles died in July 1824 at Shepardstown, Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia).1 He was buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Shepardstown, Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia).1 His estate was inventoried in August 1824 at Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia).3
     He served as a Lieutenant in an expedition against the Indians in 1778.1 He was drafted with one hundred and thirty five men on 24 April 1778 at Berkeley County, Virginia.1 He and John Mark of Shepherds were executors of the estate of Robert Buckles, father of William Buckles on 21 December 1790 at Berkeley, Virginia (now West Virginia).4 He is head of household on the census of July 1810 at Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia), as William Buckles, 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26 to 44, 1 male 45 and older, 4 females under 10, and 1 female 16 to 25.5 He sold land being 155 acres to John Ramsburgh of Frederick County, Maryland on 30 January 1818 at Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia).1 He left a will on 9 July 1824 at Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia).1,3

     Robert Buckles Sr. was born on 15 May 1702 at Yorkshire, England.1 He married Ann Brown in 1727 at Bucks County, Pennsylvania.1 Robert Buckles Sr. died before 1791 at Virginia.2
     He resided circa 1735 at Sheperdswotn, Berkeley County, Virginia.3 He served in Captain Robert Rutherford's Company of Rangers between 1758 and 1759 at Berkeley County, Virginia.4 He was a patriot in the sevice of American forces in 1776.5 He left a will on 27 June 1787 at Berkeley County, Virginia.6
