21 December 2003 William Hoggett 1818 Born at Cragg on the 28th of January 1818 and baptised the next day, the son of John Hoggett and Margaret Sayer. The 1841 and 1851 census details show William living with his family at Cragg, Lartington. In 1845 he was left land at Clent Lane along with his brother George in their father's will. He married Mary Havelock on the 18th of May 1854, witnesses John Hoggett and Elizabeth Donald. In 1871 William was living at Bowes, with wife Mary. The Returns of Landowners for 1871 and 1873 show William farming 31 acres of land with a gross estimated rent of £46 and 4 shillings. The 1891 census shows William and Mary at Barnard Castle. William died on the 23rd of February 1900, aged 82 years. He was buried at Barnard Castle's Roman Catholic Cemetery in the same grave as his wife Mary. the Monumental Inscription reads:- Cross. Pray for the soul of Mary Hoggett who d 28 Jul 1897 aged 80 yrs. William Hoggett husband of the above d 23 Feb 1900 aged 82 yrs. William and Mary had at least 2 children -
