Smith The Wetherell family are the ancestors of my partner, Steve, and our daughters Emma and Beth. Much of the information on the Wetherell family has been provided by Sarah Fox, nee Wetherell, Pat Thurston and Jonathan May, who are all descendents of Bartholomew Wetherell. Bartholomew Wetherell 1778 - 1854 Born c 1778 in Osmotherley, North Yorkshire. Parish Registers for Osmotherley show the baptism on 23 August 1778 of Bartholomew son of Christopher and Rebekah Wetherell. (Christopher Weatherill + Rebecca Wright were married by Banns at Osmotherley on 23rd July 1770 in the presence of John Bullwood and Elizabeth Garbutt. John Bullwood appears to have witnessed the next 2 marriages in the Parish Register also)Bartholomew worked as a stonemason + farmer.
Osmotherley, Yorkshire. Married Ann Sellar on the 26th of November 1798 at Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire , in the presence of William Sellar and William Borton.The 1841 census for Osmotherley shows - Bartholomew and Ann had at least 4 children:-
Bartholomew was widowed in 1846. In 1851 Bartholomew was living with his on at Hartlepool. The census shows - PRO
reference HO107 Piece 2384 folio 401 Bartholomew died on the 5th of May 1854 aged 76 years. His profession was given as labourer and Susanne Phillips was present at the death. No cause of death was given. The National Burial Index shows Bartholomew Wetherell, aged 76, buried on the 8th of May 1854 at All Saints Church, Skelton in Cleveland. |
