Thomas Wallis c1858

 

Baptised at St John's Darlington on the 17th October 1858 Thomas Wallis son of Thomas- a tailor and Ann of Freemans Place.

He married Margaret Smith.
According to the 1881 census Thomas was living at 25a Freemans Place Darlington ( his widowed mother and brother and sister were living at number 25). He was employed as a letter carrier.

Whelan's 1894 trade directory shows Thomas Wallis, postman, at 25 East Street, Darlington.

Mr Thomas Wallis, for over 40 years a postman at Darlington, was yesterday afternoon, at the Post Office, presented by the Postmaster with the Imperial Service Medal, in the presence of a large gathering of his late colleagues.

West Cemetery shows the burial of Thomas Wallis aged 83 years, of 20 Greenwell St on 1 July 1941 R7Z 38. Plots 38 + 39 purchased. 

Wills and Probate shows-

Thomas Wallis of 20 Greenwell-street Darlington died 27 June 1941. Probate Durham 9 August to Sidney Wallis railway signalman.

bulletMary Eva Wallis, baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Darlington on the 17th September 1879 daughter of Thomas - postman- and Margaret - of Cockerton. 
bulletCharles Thomas Wallis born c1882. Married Elizabeth. Died in Hospital, of 18 Montrose Street, Darlington, aged 50. Buried at Darlington's West Cemetery on the 23rd of January 1932, plot U5T 330. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend L A Howe and the grave was described as deep.
bullet Richard William Wallis, baptised at St John's Church, Darlington on the 29th of June 1883 - father Thomas , a letter carrier and mother Margaret of 25 Freeman's Place. Born on the 5 June last as attested by mother.

bullet Annie Wallis, born on the 28th of May 1889, the daughter of Thomas Wallis and Margaret of 25 Freeman's Place, Darlington. Baptised at St John's Church on the 12th of June 1889. Married Ernest Chaytor Wood at St Hilda's church, Darlington on the 30th of August 1913. Witnesses were Thomas Wallis, Alfred Wallis, Ethel Wallis and Amy Wallis.
bullet Ethel Wallis, born on the 13th of September 1891, daughter of Thomas Wallis and Margaret and baptised on the 26th of October 1891 at St Hilda's Church, Darlington. Married Edward Cummings, 34, painter of 33 Park Street, father John P Cummings, a turner on the 14th of August 1922 at St Hilda's Church, Darlington. Ethel was 31 and living 20 Greenwell Street. Her father, Thomas, was a postman. Witnesses were Ernest and Thomas Wallis.

bulletErnest Wallis, born on the 28th of April 1901, son of Thomas Wallis and Margaret. Baptised at St Hilda's Church, Darlington on the 22nd May 1901- address Raby Street. West Cemetery Burials shows - 15 October 1926, Ernest Wallis, 26, 20 Greenwell Street. Plot R 7Z 38 and plots 38 and 39 had been purchased.Ceremony by Reverend J V Roome.
