07 December 2008 Thomas Boddy (snr) 07 December 2008 Thomas was christened at
St Cuthbert's ,Darlington on June 15th 1828, son of John
Body and Mary Connor. He married Margaret
Ibitson on the 21st July 1849.Thomas was employed as a tanner. He could not
write - he signed his marriage certificate with the sign of a cross. The 1851 census shows:-
1861 census shows - In January 1865 was
living at 9 Church Street, Darlington when daughter Margaret was baptised but by
the December of that year was living at 5 Church Street at the time of daughter
Ruth's baptism. By 1881 Thomas was
living at 4 Temperance Place, Darlington and still worked as a tanner. The 1891 census shows Thomas as an inmate at Darlington Workhouse. His wife and family were living at 6 Temperance Place. Union Workhouse, Darlington
The 1901 census shows Thomas at the Working Mans Home, Clay Row, Darlington, aged 72, along with 111 others. Thomas died on the 20th
of May1903 at the Working Mans Home in Clay Row, Darlington, aged 70 years.
Presumably he was ill and could not be cared for at home. The cause of death was
' mitral regurgitation'.
