Thorp/Sidebottom
Born
21st April 1818, mother Betty.
The
Parish records, for Bradford Yorkshire, for 21st May 1820 show William Sidebottom marrying Betty Thorp.
Betty is listed as widowed.
The
IGI shows the christening of Sally Sidebottom on the 24th January 1821 at
Bradford, Yks, along with a William Sidebottom, both listed as children of
William Sidebottom and Betty. The baptism entry states Sarah was born 21st April
1818.
Sarah married William Howarth on 4th June 1843 in the
New Parish Church in Bradford. Her maiden name was given as Thorp but fathers
name as William Sidebottom. On the birth certificates for daughters Sarah and
Mary Jane her former name is given as Thorp but on those for other children it
is given as Sidebottom.
The
IGI shows the christenings of a George Sidebottom in 1814 and Joseph in
1816, in Bradford, Yks to a William Sidebottom and Betty. I can find no
deaths/burials for a Betty Sidebottom (1st wife + mother of George and Joseph)
or a Mr Thorp ( first husband of Betty, mother of Sarah) or the 1st marriages of
either couple. (A Wm Sidebottom married an Elizabeth Turpin in 1811 in
Featherstone Yks which is a possibility but have no proof)
William Sidebottom died before the 1841 census. Betty died in 1844. Death
certificate shows- Betty Sidebotham Thorp, aged 57 years, of Darfield Road,
Bowling, Bradford, Yks, widow of William Sidebotham Thorp, died on the twenty
fourth of July 1844 due to rheumatic fever. Her son, Henry Sidebotham Thorp, of
Darfield Road, Bowling, Bradford, Yks was present at the death.
