Moses Ibitson

 

 Moses was born 1826 in Thornbary , Yks, son of George Ibitson and Mary.


In 1848 he fathered an illegitimate son, Thomas Ibitson Boddy, to Jane Boddy.
He presumably married Jane c1850 as they had a daughter, Mary Jane on November 10th 1850. Moses was then employed as a labourer.
The 1851 census shows Moses, wife Jane, son Thomas and daughter Mary Jane living at 70 St Johns Road/Place Darlington. Moses was employed as a labourer on the railways. 


The 1881 census shows Moses, living with his wife Jane and daughters Elleanor and Ruth at 9 Cross Street Darlington. Moses was then employed as a boiler smith. 
The family were still living there in 1891.

Moses and Jane had at least 8 children:-

bulletThomas Ibitson Boddy - The illegitimate son of Moses Ibitson and Jane Boddy. Christened at St Cuthberts Darlington on the 15th October 1848. In 1851 was living at 70 St John's Road, Darlington. Died in Darlington in the September quarter of 1851, aged 3 years.
bulletMary Jane Ibitson - Baptised at St Cuthberts, Darlington on November 10th 1850. SCHI shows the death of a Mary Jane Ibitson in Darlington Dec q 1851.Buried at St Cuthbert's, Darlington on the 25th of October 1851, aged 14 months.
bulletMary Ann Ibitson - St Cuthbert's Parish Registers show the baptism of Mary Ann Ibitson, daughter of Moses and Jane on the 2nd of January 1853.

Moses and Jane lived at 9 Cross Street, Darlington for about 18 years.

Moses died at Westmoreland Street (possibly daughter Jane's house) in April 1899. He was buried at Darlington's North Cemetery on the 29th of April 1899 on unconsecrated ground, B Y 109. The service was held by Thomas M Barker. The grave is described as eight and a half feet.

Jane died at Grass Street, Darlington in December 1900. She was buried at Darlington's North Cemetery alongside husband Moses, on the 2nd of January 1901.
