Jonathan Wallis 1764.

Jonathan Wallis was christened in Darlington on the 26th April 1764 - son of George Wallis,  a collier from Darlington.
 

Jonathan married Jane Brownless on the 6th of October 1789 at St Cuthbert's , Darlington.

 

The entry in the Parish Register reads - 

Jonathan Wallis of this Parish Taylor and Jane Brownless of the same Parish Spinster were married in this Church by Licence this sixth day of October one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine by me Mattw. Parrington

Both Jonathan and Jane signed their own names.
Employed as a tailor.


The IGI claims Jonathan was buried 13 September 1840 at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington, although I can find no trace of his death in the SCHI.

Jonathan and Jane had at least 12 children:-

Married John Yare on the 28th of November 1815 in Darlington.

William Wallace born 3 March 1801 baptised 12 August 1801 4th son of Jonathan Wallace - tailor and Jane Brownless.
bulletJane Wallis- Born in Darlington on the 3 January 1803 and christened on the 1st of May 1803 (IGI)
Married John Preston on the 25th of February 1823. Witnesses were her brother Jonathan Wallis and brother in law John Yare. Had daughter Mary Ann in 1823. Died in 1825 and was buried at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington on the 10th February 1825.

Frances Wallace born 11th? December 1807 baptised 15 May 1808- 4th daughter of Jonathan Wallace - tailor - native of Darlington by his wife Jane Brownless, native of Darlington.
Married James Dunn on the 13th of August 1831.
bulletAnn Wallis- Born on the 21st of October 1810, in Darlington and christened on the 6th of November 1810. Died on the 6th of March 1811. Buried at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington on the 8th of March 1811, aged 1 year, the daughter of Jonathan Walace, tailor and Jane his wife, late Brownless.

Hannah Wallace born 4 April 1812 baptised 27 April 1812 6th daughter of Jonathan Wallace- tailor- native of Darlington by his wife Jane Brownless, native of Darlington.
St Cuthbert's Marriage Registers show the marriage of a Hannah Wallis and John Moss on the 23rd of November 1834. Witnesses were Benjamin Moss and Elizabeth Towler.
Darlington West Cemetery Burials show the burial of Hannah Moss , aged 51, widow of John Moss, woolcomber of Upper Commercial Street, on the 29th of November 1863.
