28 May 2011 John Donkin Born in Routh, Yorkshire c1808, the son of Robert Donkin and Hannah Burrell. Christened at St John & St Martin, Beverley, Yorkshire on the 22nd March 1808, son of Robert Donkin and Hannah. Married Jane Frankish at Bridlington on 12th February 1835. The 1841 census for
Sewerby Yks shows - Employed as a Horse-Jockey in 1842. 1851 census for
Sewerby cum Marton, Yks folio 276 shows- 1861 Sewerby with
Marton Yks John died in 1868 and Jane in 1874. 58 year old John Donkin, formerly a groom at Sewerby Yks, died on the 23rd March 1868 at the North Riding Lunatic Asylum, Clifton Yks, as the result of ulceration of the intestines. Monumental Inscriptions for Sewerby show- In memory of John Donkin who died March 23rd 1868 aged 60 years. Also of Mary Jane Charmley youngest daughter of the above named who died December 5th 1861 aged 22 years. Also daughter of the above named Mary Jane Charmley who died in her infancy. Also of Jane, wife of the above who died December 5th 1874 aged 64 years. Parish registers show the burials of - Mary Jane Chanley of Sewerby aged 21 on 7 December 1861, Mary Jane Chanley, of Sewerby aged 9 weeks on 4 February 1862 and Jane Donkin, of Sewerby, aged 63 on 7 December 1874.
