Isabel de Clare

Isabel de Clare, born on the 22nd November 1226, was the daughter of Gilbert de Clare and Isabel Marshal.


Isabella was married on 12 May 1240 to Robert de Brus, 5th Lord of Annandale.

Her uncle, Gilbert Marshal who gave her the Sussex manor of Ripe as a marriage portion.


Isabel and Robert had the following children-


bulletRobert de Brus, 6th Lord of Annandale and father to legendary Robert the Bruce.


bullet Isabel de Brus married Sir John Fitz-Marmaduke


bulletWilliam de Brus, married Elizabeth de Sully, without issue


bulletBernard de Brus, married firstly Alicia de Clare and married secondly Constance de Morleyn


bulletRichard de Brus (died c1287), unmarried and without issue


bulletConstance de Brus (born 1251, date of death unknown), married Sir William Scot de Calverley and had daughter, Clarissa Scott (m. Sir John Fairfax)

Isabel died on the 12th July 1264.
