John died in 1910. His death certificate states:
25th December 1910, 40 Albion St, Murton Colliery, East Murton, John Thomas Hopper, 63 years old, winding engineman. Died as the result of Influenza, cardiac failure. George Buckingham, son in law of 10 New Pilgrim Street, Murton Colliery, was in attendance at the death.
