Oxford Dictionary of English Surnames" the name Hoggett and its
variations are from Old English hogg and hierde - "swine herd"
HOGGET -
A young sheep of either sex from about nine to ten months until it is two-tooth.

between us Mathew Hoggett Mary Dent in the presence of us Thos. Langstaff,

Jane Hogget, spinster of Cragg married John Brown, bachelor of Bowes were married at Romaldkirk on the 25th of May 1820. Witnesses were Matthew Hogget and Adam Bousfield.
PR's for Lartington RC Church show - May 22 1822 was born at Fountain Head and on the 23rd was baptised Elizabeth daughter of John Brown and Jane (formerly Hoggit). Sponsors were John Hoggit and Ann Hoggit.
