The Hall
Branch
HALL
(British). = "Hall, manor-house"; or, "boulder, slope" (Old
Norse).
John Hall ( my 4 x Great
Grandfather) was born about 1791 in Evenwood, Durham - just South of Bishop
Auckland.
Married Mary Lambert on 16th May 1816 at Hutton
Magna.
Married in the Chapelry of Great Hutton - John Hall of this Parish, Groom and Mary Lambert, Spinster of this Parish were married in this Chapelry by Banns with consent this sixteenth Day of May in the Year One thousand eight hundred and sixteen. By me William Heslop, Minister. In the presence of Henry Walton, Ann Pages and William Kirkley? Both John and Mary signed their own names.
The 1841 census for
Hutton shows:-

be 80?)

Ralph Hall son 36 unmarried horse breaker born Hutton
Sarah Hall daughter 30 unmarried born Hutton
John was widowed in 1868.
John Hall, aged 92, died of old age at Hutton on the 11th of
October 1872. Daughter Jane Hall was present at the death. He was buried at Hutton Magna on the 15th of October 1872.
John and Mary had at
least
7 children. Their dates of birth, at the moment, are rather elusive. As
the census entries show, there is a variation in their ages which implies that
they were not sure how old they actually were.
