Grieves 

Robert Grieves was my 5 x Great Grandfather. Born in Darlington about 1768 (IGI). He worked as a staymaker. 

Durham Marriage Bonds show - 15th June 1793 Robert Grieve, widower, of Darlington, staymaker, Elizabeth Nelson, 23 of Darlington, Thomas Watson, wine cooper of Stockton.
Married Elizabeth Nelson on the 17th of June 1793.

Married Elizabeth Nelson on the 17th of June 1793 at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington. Marriage entry reads;
Robert Grieve, Staymaker, and Elizabeth Nelson, Spinster, both of this Parish, were married, in this church, by Licence, this Seventeenth Day of June, One Thousand, Seven Hundred, and Ninety three, by me James ?, Minister. In the presence of Thomas Snaith and John Preston.




Robert died in 1796 . 
Buried in Darlington on the 5th of August 1796 (National Burial Index). Entry in St Cuthbert's parish register states: 5th  August 1796 Robert Grieve of Darlington , staymaker, buried.

Robert and Elizabeth had at least 3 children:-

bulletJames Grieves- Christened on the 30th of December 1791 in Darlington. St Cuthbert's Parish registers show him to be the son of Robert Grieves, a staymaker of Darlington.
bulletWilliam Grieves- Christened in St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington on the 20th of May 1794 , the son of Robert Grieves, a staymaker of Darlington.
Buried in Darlington on the 25th October 1795 (IGI)
bulletElizabeth Grieves - my 4 x Great Grandmother - Born 21 August 1796 in Darlington, the daughter of Robert Grieves and Elizabeth Nelson. (IGI)  Baptised at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington on the 21 September 1796. Father was listed as Robert Greaves, staymaker and the baptism listed as posthumous. Her father died a few weeks before she was born and her mother married John Champney in 1798.
Elizabeth married Thomas Wallis on the 1st of December 1813.
In 1851 was living in the parish of Holy Trinity Darlington.
