The 1901 census shows Martha, aged 48, unmarried, born Beaconsfield, Yks, employed as a housekeeper domestic at 7 Leeds Street, Thornaby on Tees.

Ethel Greenfield had illegitimate son Bartholomew Garnett in 1899 in Stockton Workhouse, to Bartholomew Wetherell. She left him on the doorstep of his father/grandparents home. 

The 1901 census shows Ethel as an unmarried, 20 year old, general domestic at Windy Hill, Rudby, Yorkshire, the home of farmer John S Dodsworth and family.
