George
Spence Glendenning
Baptised at St John's Church, Darlington on the 27th of
December 1871, son of Robert Glendenning and Elizabeth
Blackburn.
In 1881 was living with his family at 52 Park Place, Darlington.
In 1891 was employed as a tailor and living with his mother and some
siblings at 63 Model Place, Darlington.

When he signed up for short service in 1892 he was employed as a tailor and had
been rejected for service before due to his chest measurement. Was 19 years and
4 months old, 5 feet 4 and a quarter inches tall, weighing 111 lbs, with a chest
measurement of 32 and a half inches (expanding to 34 and a half inches.) He had
a fresh complexion, light blue eyes and dark brown hair. He had a tattoo of E.D.
on inside and an anchor on outside of left forearm.
He was posted, as a Private in September 1892, appointed Lance Corporal 11th
January 1893 dept? as Lance corporal and back to Private 10th March 1893. Posted
as Private on 16th February 1894.
He extended his service to complete 12 years with the colours.

On the 25th of May 1917, George
Spence Glendenning, aged 43 of 44 Swan Street, Darlington married Alice
Etherington, aged 42 also of 44 Swan Street at St Hilda's Church,
Darlington. George was listed as a Private in the Yorkshire Regiment.
