24 August 2008 George Clement George Clement ( my 3 x Great Grandfather) was born about 1826 in East Layton. Baptised at Stanwick St John on the 4th of June 1826, the son of William, a labourer of Aldbrough and Margaret nee Brown.George married Elizabeth Hall on the 10th of May 1851 at Wycliffe. George was listed as a countryman. Witnesses to the marriage were Margaret Clement and Ralph Hall. George was an agricultural labourer in 1859 according to daughter Teresa Mary's birth certificate.
1881 census shows - Hutton Fields The 1891 census shows George, employed as a labourer, living at Hutton Village with his wife and 4 Grandchildren, daughter Teresa Mary's children. The census gives George's place of birth as Hutton Village, not East Layton. George died at Hutton Magna on the 24th of September 1899, aged 76. The cause of death was ' carcinoma of prostate and rectum 8 months (detected) and asthenia'. George's brother in law, Henry Hall, of Hutton Magna, was present at the death. Buried at Hutton Magna on the 27th of September 1899, certified to A Wm. Close by John Jackson - Burials Act 1880. George and Elizabeth had at least 3 children:-
