Edmund Hoggett 1862

Edmund Thomas Hoggett was my 2 x Great Grandfather. He was the son of John Hoggett and Mary Eales. Born on the 3rd of June 1862 at Cotherstone, Teesdale. He was baptised at Lartington on the 5th of June 1862 by Thomas Witham. His sponsors (godparents) were William Hoggett and Jane Kiplin.

In 1871, aged 8, was living at Cotherstone.

In 1881 was living with his widowed mother, 4 brothers and 2 sisters at Cragg House, Lartington.
Edmund married Isabella Dove at the Register Office, Teesdale on the 1st of March 1884.
In 1884 at the time of his marriage to Isabella, Edmund was employed as a farm manager and living at Lartington.

At the time of birth of his twin daughters, Monica May and Teresa in 1888, he was employed as a gardener and living at Carmel House Lodge, a Nunnery in Darlington.

Edmund died on the 14th of October 1898, aged 36 years, as the result of enteric fever ( 22 days). He had been employed as a stone quarry man and living at Station Road, Deaf Hill, Trimdon Foundry, County Durham. M Hall also of Trimdon Foundry was present at the death. Edmund's wife Isabella went on to remarry in 1905.

Edmund and Isabella had at least 7 children:-
bulletCharlie Hoggett- Born Charles Wilfred Hoggett but went by name of Charlie. Born Trimdon on 21st December 1894.Served in the 1st World War and survived a mustard gas attack. He was living at Whorlton, Barnard Castle and was employed as a farm servant when he signed up to the army for the duration of the First World War on 31st December 1914. His height was given as 5ft 6 inches he had a 35inch chest. His next of kin was listed as his mother, Isabella Saunders of Wycliffe. He joined his regiment at Newcastle Upon Tyne on 1st January 1915. He was a driver for the R.F.A - regiment number 63672.Army records show that he acknowledged his acceptance of the 1914-15 Star on 22nd July 1920 and a war medal on 19th October 1920.In his later years he lived at Newsam with his sisters Teresa and Monica. Died in the June quarter of 1975.

bulletFrancis Edmund Joseph Hoggett- Born in Darlington in 1889. Died in Darlington in January 1890. Darlington's West Cemetery Burial Records show :- 21 January 1890 - Francis Edmund Joseph Hoggett, 3 months, of Carmel Lodge, buried on unconsecrated ground O? (or G) 4D 41
bulletJoe Hoggett- Born in Darlington on the 26th of April 1891. Baptised Joseph at St Augustine's R C Church, Darlington on the 1st of May 1891. Godmother Margaret Monk.

In January 1911 was witness to marriage of sister Lily to John Stapleton.
Joe lived in Stockton.

Joseph Hoggett, aged 58 years, died in the June quarter of 1950.
