                           George Davison

George Davison ( my 4 x Great Grandfather)was born on the 29th of December 1795 in Cockerton, Darlington. He was baptised at St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington on the 11th of January 1796, the illegitimate child of Mary Davison, a spinster of Cockerton.

Married Margaret.  Their daughter Mary Ann ( my 3 x Great Grandmother) was born about 1833. She married Ralph Harker on the 20th May 1854 at The Chapel, Forcett, Yorkshire. Mary Ann was living at High Close, Forcett Yks at the time of her marriage. 

 The 1851 census shows George and family living in Barforth. In 1854 he was employed as a husbandman.


In 1861 George was living at Ovington. The census entry shows:-

Margaret Davison wife 61/67 born Winton Westmorland
Ralph Harker son in law 33 ag lab born Abbey Moors, Yks
Mary Ann Harker wife 28 born Darlington
George Harker son 4 born Greta Bridge
Joseph Harker son 2 born Greta Bridge


In 1864 George  was present at the death of his son in law Ralph Harker at Ovington. George signed the death certificate with the mark of a cross.
By 1871 was employed as an agricultural labourer and living with his wife Margaret and Grandson, Joseph Harker, at Ovington.

George died on the 5th of August 1874, of old age, aged 80 years, at Ovington, Yorkshire. A Hannah Dryden, of Ovington, was present at the death. George was buried at Forcett on the 9th of August 1874.
